The Etymology of a Muppet

I've finally found out the answer to the age old question of the universe:

What the heck is a Muppet anyway?

Back in my prior days of ignorance, I used to just say "It's a puppet...but it's a Muppet...", seeing as I did not know the answer.  I tried to cover my ignorance by saying it was one of those things we could never be sure of, but just was.  But the question secretly tormented my soul.  What were the answers to this all-important question?  Would I ever find them?  I almost gave up even caring, figuring I would never know.  But now, after much searching, I have been enlightened and shall show my findings to all the confused souls out there, who also do not know the answers.

Muppet (noun)  -  Any puppet character of the children's television show Sesame Street and commercial products of those characters.
Etymology: (m)arionette + (p)uppet

Marionette (noun)  -  A jointed puppet manipulated from above by strings or wires attached to its limbs.

Puppet (noun)  -  1.  A small figure of a person or animal, having a cloth body and hollow head, designed to be fitted over and manipulated by the hand.  2.  A figure having jointed parts animated from above by strings or wires; a marionette.

So there you have it...the etymology of a Muppet.  Now you can rest knowing that your questions have been answered and your troubled soul can have peace.  Brought to you by the letter Q, the number 7, and the really bored, sleep deprived Jim Rogers.

Yes many nations have gone to war over this question even though muppets have only been around for less than 50 years.
